Adding Lightness
![]() I'm really diggin' the "rear weight bias". Any ideas on how I can, as Colin Chapman said, "add lightness"?

There is a thread posted by Jim Calzia that outlined all the parts installed on his 73 RSR replica that were lightweight.
Assuming you have the car stripped to bare metal, here is my recipe Bodywork: We have had parts made thinner than normal for those looking to get their cars as light as possible. Besides having any excess resin squeegeed during the molding process, we can also get the parts made with vinyl ester resin. It adds several hundred bucks to the order, but the resin is a little bit stronger than the usual poly ester and hence we can use less to manufacture the parts. The downside is that these thinner parts will deform under air pressure: the front hood on jack olsen's car is an example of this- it needs to be supported in the center when up, and you can see it bend inwards from air pressure when he gets over 100 mph on the track. Balsa strips aid in keeping the form, but you will see the impressions of these strips right thru the gel coat after you paint the car. Anyway here is a 73 RSR body list on making the car light, using fiberglass (Almost ALL carbon fiber parts offered are wet layup method and weigh just as much as fiberglass. Any properly bagged carbon parts are really expensive too) front lid front bumper front fenders doors roof < yeah we have a mold for the entire coupe roof ! rear quarters rear lid- several options rear bumper Windows- all plastic glue in (no need for heavy weatherstripping), inc windshield if you don't mind scratches plastic outer door handles- if you keep stock latches robotek race door latches Interior chrome moly roll bar (we are assuming race car build here) with chrome moly front section/ side intrusion bars Carbon/kevlar race seats < the big brands are properly made and good for safety thin aluminum rear deck, rear interior panel instead of the back seat area (i'll buy the steel oe one if cut out properly and not rusted) Mag case transmission mag case engine - you can build to a 2.9 in a 7R case lightweight starter fuchs alloys- there are not many options that are as light R front and rear tailamp set ups usa headlamp set up with some aftermarket plastic construction headlamps < you did ask for as light as possible right? On the more esoteric expensive side you can go further with cutting out the dash and getting a complete one piece dash, stack or motec instrumentation (thereby losing the oe guages) Fiberglass engine shroud kit, ultra light oil hoses for the cooler system I will leave it at this so far. Others can play here too with their contributions

OK, I'll ask.
In the picture above there seems to be only two jack stands under the car, with no other visible means of support. How'd ya do it?

That would be the rear weight bias
![]() Actually, I think I can see a blue strap holding the back down.
