Opinions please
I've posted various threads on this project of mine and the responses have really helped me to get to the stage I am currently at. Thanks to all who have given me advice.
Before I lay on some color I wanted to get some opinions on what is the preferred option. I apologise if this seems like a trivial topic but I am struggling to make a decision!! I am restoring the underside of my Zinc Metallic 1983 Euro SC. So far all suspension, brakes, steering, etc is out and I have cleaned it up and repaired all the damaged areas. I just sprayed Wurth SKS in grey on the entire underneath including wheel wells. Now it's time for color and I am definitely painting the wheel wells. My question is whether to paint underneath as well. I prefer the look of a painted finish but stone chips and grime may ruin it over time. It will get cleaned from time to time but as the car will be driven it's not going to be completely protected from reality. If I leave the underside in SKS grey then I would use the seam as the paint line. I still plan to paint the front boot and engine bay in body color. The car is not a daily driver (3000 miles per year). I am not trying to restore it to a completely original spec, in fact the use of grey SKS is already a compromise as the beige is NLA. I had considered painting the underside and wheel wells black but in the end I wanted body color in the wheel wells. The question is then, should I spray with body color underneath or leave it grey? Here is a pic of the grey as it is at the moment (still got a couple of small areas to touch up) ![]()

Bird. It's the word...

FWIW, I'm painting the underside of my car - over SKS as part of my restoration.
You're right, the paint will be chipped and wear over time, but "whilst you're there" ![]()

The number of "whilst you're there" projects I've got on the go are bigger than the actual project!!
One more won't hurt. I'm leaning the same direction as you John - thanks for the input.

Think I'd go with black. It's easier to spot-cover when needed.

^^^ +1 ^^^
I left mine black (epoxy primer) no SKS, in order to spot and remedy potential problems. Not to mention paint is not cheap!

i would go with wurth black under coating up the bottom of the rocker panel with a tape edge to deflect rocks that may chip the paint, and it is black so you can spray the rest of the can on the bottom pan after paint is complete to cover over spray for a clean look.
