This is what happens when you get a cheap paint job!

Well I'm finally getting around to fixing the previous owners "quick fix". I bought the car 7 years ago and the car looked great. Over the next few years I started to notice that the hood was getting dull in a couple of spots. These spots grew bigger and I started to notice that the paint was cracking. These cracks became apparent on the hood, front bumper headlight trims and flag mirrors. So I am told that the previous owner must have had a cheap paint spray done to mask the paint chips on these leading edges.
The car is in and I can't wait to see it back to its original beauty.

Here are a couple of pics of the progress so far.
As you can see there was rust starting to form under the paint and the hood nicely sanded down.

More Pics to come.

He has decided to paint the front fenders instead of just blending into them and is going to blend into the doors instead. I am very pleased so far. He keeps calling me and telling me to come and take pictures. Most places I've had to deal with in the past have not been so open with the dropping by to take a look at the progress. This past Saturday he calls in the morning to tell me to drop by to take pics. He's closed on weekends but was going in for an hour so he thought I might want to see my baby again.

Should be ready for the end of this week.

Here's more progress pics.

One more thing....

My other hobby is guitars so I brought him one of my Strat bodies to paint at the same time. He LOVED the idea. Can't wait to see the 2 of them together.

Well she is done and looking great. I need to take her back in for a few air bubbles but he has let me have her back for a few days so I can see if there is anything else that needs to be addressed.

I'll let the pictures tell the story.

I just noticed that you're in Ottawa. Do you recommend this guy? If so, will you send me a PM with his specifics?

Hi Charlie,

Ace body shop is who I used. They are just east of Orleans.
He does very good work and I do recommend him. The only problem is that he is very vocal and a bit rude. Once you get to know him he is a big teddy bear.

He's in the book or you can do a web search and get some more info.

I'm in Orleans, where are you located?

Howie

Hi Marc,

He charged me $3000 tax in for the job. He had to strip to metal the hood, Targa bar and lower front valance. Rust repair on the lower corners of the windshield and inner buckets of the lights.

I am very pleased with his work and highly recommend him. He gives you a price and thats the price. If he finds anything while he is doing the job he accepts the cost of fixing it. He does not let you do any of the work , ie, remove bumpers, lights, trim etc yourself. He does the whole job so if any pieces break he replaces them at his cost.

He is very blunt and sais it like it is so if you take it to him be ready for whole lot of honesty.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Howie

Thanks Burnin oil.

My wife got me the personal plate after we got the car as a B-day present. The story behind it is that In jr High I made a friend whose dad had a 73 Targa and would take us for rides. Fell in love and since then I keep saying one day I will have one. So 20yrs later I finally got it. The only problem is I had to get the plate with Finally spelled FINALYY. The funny thing is that at the bottom of ONTARIO plates it says "yours to discover". Kind of fitting that after 20 some yrs of waiting for my dream car, my plate says:

FINALYY
Yours to discover.

And I must say that I've loved every minute of discovering her.

Now to tackle the suspension bushings and maybe add some Rennline pedals.
