Painting window trim...help????

I have just aquired an 88 924S and I want to touch up the paint (especially the window trim where the paint has flaked off) What is the best paint to use to do this small job?
Obviously there is an issue with the paint adhereing....so what is the best remedy for this problem?

Huh. A1988 924? I thought 924 production stopped in 1983?

Do you have black trim?

Yes the trim is black, mostly that is, except where the paint has flaked off.
1988 was the last year that the 924S was made, the body is the same (if not very slight nose and fog light changes)as previous 924's, and the interior resembles the pre 85.5 changes made to the 944. I share the same 2.5l 4 cyl motor, and really the only difference is that the 924 is lighter because it has no fender flares.

you would have to sand (feather edge ) the pealing paint with 220 or 230 grit paper then red pad the rest of the window frame . mask the window frames off then spray 2 to 3 coats of an spray can etch primer . after the etch primer drys then red pad the window frames again . wipe them down with a pre paint cleaner then tack them off with a tack rag . after that spray them with trim black . i like 5 stars trim black #5911 it comes in a spray can . its an enamel based product so it will look to shiny for 2 or 3 day untill it cures . then it will be the satin black your looking for . i like enamels in spray can form because it will not lift the substraight like lacquers will when you use it . some trim blacks state that you can use them over bare metals . i do not do it because you will get better adhesion by using a etch primer first .

If I may hijack this thread just a bit...

My 1978 targa has the option of chrome finishes in matte. Do I refinish in the same manner as if the trim was black? Has anyone had success with a spray can, and if so what brand/color number?

Thanks!

I wasn't expecting such a thorough answer from this simple question. I asked the same question years ago and got no response.
Once again 962 to the rescue.
Amazon order booked and enroute!

What you see is how I left it last night.
Back windows are laying on the work
bench. Non heated shop so I left it overnight with the
shop lights on it.

Boy that Transtar sprays out nice.

I think I'll be happy. Only had one mishap. I had one of the trim pieces that snap into door fall off the nuts that I had them sitting. Put a smudge in the paint. Tried giving it a shot of paint. Didn't work.
I autocross tomorrow so the redo will have to wait. At least it's the easy to get to piece.
