Do I need Bondo & Adhesive for installing a FG wing?
I'll also cross-post a link to this in the 911 and 964 forums.
Early last winter I purchased a FG 964 wing from Getty Designs, based on the very positive reviews I've seen here. I installed it in December or so, not cured nor painted, just to see what it would look like on the road. I noticed that the wing lip that needs to be drilled to accept bolts from the deck was too narrow by ~3/8" to cover the holes in the bottom flange of the deck lid; and that the screen vibrates a lot, so I wrote to GD back in January about it. This week I finally got around to taking and sending the pics that Mark requested. His suggestion was to tape the flange, apply thin layer of bondo to the the flange, press into place, then sand a chamfer on the edge of the base of the wing. As for not using the 4 bolts on the edge that cannot mate to the deck lid flange, that would be no problem and suggested that I use a small amount of 3M weatherstrip adhesive on the center section. Regarding the screen vibration, his suggestion is using silicone adhesive to glue the screen to the wing to solve that problem. Important notes here: 1. I know almost zero about bodywork 2. I'd like to keep the wing, if these approaches makes sense 3. Mark has been very responsive and provided detailed information about how to address these issues and that if I was not satisfied I could return the wing for a refund. Questions: 1. Do the approaches for the bondo and adhesive make sense to you (much more knowledgeable) folks? I was under that assumption that I could drill and bolt on, and perhaps add a seal of some sort between the base of the wing and the flanges; although his idea would seem to make for a better-looking fit, IMO. 2. Is there another way to prevent the screen vibration w/o gluing it to the wing? I'd like to have the wing painted gloss black to match my car, but the screen painted in matte or satin black. Thanks a ton for your help. Phil

Phil,
I've done a bit of this type of thing, do you have photos you can post here?

Here are some pics.
Look through the grill in the first photo (third slot from the top, left side) and you can see that the mounting hole in the deck is not covered by the edge of the wing (which I had covered with blue tape). The next group of photos were taken blindly from inside the wing. You’ll see that the wing does not cover the lip and holes of the deck lid. Lastly, a handful of exteriors to show how it sits on the deck lid. I didn’t take any pics of the grille, as there is not much to show. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Pretty small holes. Did you get it worked out ok yet?
You could basically just do something as easy as bondo over a bit of mesh from the back, then from the top, sand, and then color it with chip repair paint. FG and resin would work too but a bit messier.
