Installed the calipers...
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psj8risfuf.jpg I had installed the clip to the existing line thinking that the one that came with the brake kit attached to it... nope, that flexible line has to be remove as well... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psjicgwkbd.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps7c9qhogv.jpg And since nothing has been easy on this car... guess what? Yeah, the lines would not come loose... hard lines would simply not come out... It took a lot of WD40, praying and cursing (Yin-Yang :) ) and in some cases, cutting tools to get them out... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pstpv4qwpy.jpg But they came out in pieces at the end... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8i6z1wv9.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psx3i1mea5.jpg And good thing I had new lines just in case this happened... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps9ozfjyhf.jpg |
New lines installed...
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pshz4ewoua.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psscqf9mbl.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8dzsvqdb.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psfoy2knki.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psrimyomyi.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pswmrmz5ih.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psylknpr6s.jpg Another task almost done... yeah, forgot to buy ATE brake fluid :soapbox: so not able to bleed the system... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pszkigobw6.jpg Stickers installed on the Koni-orange painted Bilstein shocks http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pspahcucqb.jpg And also tightened the bolts to the suspension arms at the chasis end... |
Well... turns out I did have a few cans of brake fluid... ATE Blue, Gold, and a Castrol SRF...
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps0mduxww9.jpg I was able to do the brake bleeding and finish the brakes... installed the old wheels and tires for now... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psh8jvau4h.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps6rlfwmio.jpg Next, finish the wiring for the headlights, front turn signals, and horns... |
Car looks beautiful.

Wachuko as an experienced builder good move to reverse the trailing arm bolts. Things are coming together nicely.

I have done things so many times over and over due to my inexperience/mistakes, that I do not have an issue to go back and redo something if you see that it was done incorrectly. I still need to torque the hub nut to specifications, that is why you do not see the cotter pin in place :) http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psfdzacbqn.jpg SmileWavy |
No you did it correctly. If the trailing arm has to come off for any reason you only need to take the nut off and pull the bolt out on the brake side. The factory installs them with the nut on the brake side but than you can't pull the bolt out because of the transmission. Most people cut the head off and than pull from the brake side. Just a pain to do with the tran in. Keep up the good work.

This is looking really good. Love watching this build.

I have been busy with things related to my children. Baby steps working with the car is more than an understatement...
A few weeks ago (might be months now...time goes by so fast) I had to remove the driver side lock mechanism since it was broken. To do that, the window rails/frame had to come out. Anyway... all that was pending getting a replacement lock and the time to replace it. I did find a lock mechanism, from eBay, from a 1995 993. Turns out that it works perfectly in the older cars. Sorry about the lack of photos, I had my hands full trying to align the rails, then the glass came off the base, then the base came off the sliders, then...:icon501: anyway... I was able to put it all back together. Now I have a fully functional door with locks and everything. :jumper: But I can't test the door window mechanism because looking in the trunk, I have no negative battery cable! :soapbox: But hey... door is working and no longer have to keep it in place with a cord. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps0qep0gwj.jpg Those are old bolts... I have new ones ready to replace those... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psx6zd52d1.jpg Door handle back in place... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psszxbgqcb.jpg |
Progress?

Looking through this has me so motivated to finish my car! Love your work buddy! Looks damn good
|
Looking great , I hope everything is ok?
|
Sorry guys... still have the cars but life gets in the way... no progress so far... just need time to get back to working on it...

Between this nasty cold and the rain... not much done, but at least started working on it again.
Installed the new turn signal switch lever... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psnc9zwapm.jpg Installed Rennline driver side floorboard... Installed driver side door panel. I had this waiting until I had finished the internal door lock mechanism... well, the lock was installed about a year ago and I never installed the door panel until now. Humm, now I remember, I was waiting to install the door mirror...that is why it kept sitting uninstalled... Anyway, I decided to install it now and I can remove when the time comes to install the mirrors. I still need to find again the template for the location of the mirrors... scare to drill holes in the wrong location, yikes... And for the life of me, I can't find the door lock plug... ordered one from our host... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psjjykk6rh.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psblnxl6ut.jpg |
It was nice sitting in it again... I have to finish my projects I so want to be able to drive these cars....
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psm7ix4noj.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psaepuopdj.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psk5aqcvmi.jpg |
I am working on identifying what this wire is for and where does it goes??
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8833c15b.jpg Goes to this plug http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps0jhsg21o.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psh0iwcwy6.jpg |
Mystery wire seems to be from the voltage regulator.* It goes into the DF terminal on the older alternators... researching... looks like that wire is not use in the newer alternators and it is just left like that and not connected to anything.

Local shop was able to redo my fuel lines... they could not crimp to original specs so the ended up brazing adapters and making standard lines... With this done I should be able to install the engine and transmission back this weekend. Woohooo!
|
Could not resist... ordered a billet oil sump plate cover...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1542824527.jpg |
Engine is in!! Engine, transmission, headers, muffler... had to make some cutouts on the bumper to clear the tailpipes... used some trim I had to hide the cuts...
Now to work on the oil tank, oil lines, front center mounted oil cooler, etc.... closer, closer. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg https://i151.photobucket.com/albums/...psqazcvi9m.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543123461.jpg |

Worked on separating the stock oil lines from the side loop/cooler... man those were stuck tight!!* Several cycles of heat and WD-40... at the end I placed the line on the floor and held the wrench on the fixed side while hitting the other wrench with a mallet.. broke loose without much force.* Now working on cleaning them. Using scotch brite pad and WD-40 (might switch to Simple Green if it works faster, need to test)...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543171120.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543171120.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543171120.jpg |
One down, one more to go... and forget the WD-40... the best thing to use is Goo Gone!! Wish I had started with that and I would have gotten both done today...

Man, wish I had been as organized as I was with the 912...
My 1967 912 Build Thread When I took this one apart I did not organized the hardware in different backs/boxes... so guess what? Can't find squat! Had to order new bolts for the brackets that hold down the lines in place and also the two clamps needed... 1 - Rear Clip to Attach Oil Line Part #: 999-511-080-02-OEM 1 - Front Clip to Attach Oil Line Part #: 999-511-084-02-OEM 3 - Tapping Screw Part #: 900-187-032-02-OEM This build is not like my 912 build... with the 912 I went overboard with every nut, bolt, hardware, etc. reconditioned... on this one, I just did the minimum... and now I am regretting it... eventually I will come back and do it all again and power coat and recondition everything nut and bolt... but for now, I just want to finish it and drive it! Also had to order a few more items to finish the clutch install. The small cir-clips and hardware on the outside of the transmission... Also ordered a few more things to get the oil tank ready for installation. I need to finish cleaning it and put a coat of paint on it (was not going to risk having it powder coated)... Engine Oil Tank Support Bracket Part #: 901-501-930-22-OEM Washer / Spacer for Oil Tank (2 per car) Part #: 901-107-661-00-OEM Oil Tank Mount Washer (Plastic with Recessed Center) Part #: 901-107-693-01-OEM Oil Tank Mount Washer (Plastic with Raised Center) Part #: 901-107-692-00-OEM Intermediate Layer Part #: 901-501-909-20-OEM Oil Cap Seal Part #: 930-107-272-01-M127 Fuel Level Sensor Gasket Part #: 914-201-891-00-INT Oil Tank Gasket Part #: 911-107-192-03-M253 Manual Trans Shift Rod Support Boot Part #: 911-424-294-00-INT Helper Spring Upper O-Ring, 7.3x2.4mm Part #: 999-701-209-40-OEM Clutch Helper Spring Pivot Washer Part #: 900-234-502-01-OEM Helper Spring Bearing, 2 Req Part #: 999-201-212-00-OEM Helper Spring Pivot Pin Part #: 915-116-624-00-OEM Helper Spring Spacers Part #: 930-116-617-00-OEM Assembly Lower Cover Part #: 900-036-016-02-OEM Helper Spring Upper Circlip Part #: N012-408-2-OEM Clutch Release Bearing Guide Tube O-Ring (40 X 1.5 mm) Part #: 999-701-359-40-M30 Throw-Out Lever Shaft Lower Circlip Part #: N-012-418-1-OEM Throw-Out Lever Seal Part #: 915-301-139-00-M30 - I probably have 4 of these that I can't find!! Engine Cylinder Head Nut Part #: 901-104-382-02-INT - This is for the top bolt on the starter |
Removed stock sump plate cover. Remove studs.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543685274.jpg Installed new studs at the right length... used blue Loctite http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543685274.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543685274.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543685274.jpg Eye candy... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543685274.jpg |
Installing front mounted Elephant Racing oil cooler...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543701059.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543701059.jpg |
Second oil line cleaned and installed... still waiting for the bracket bolts to mount those...
Installed thermostat and lines... realized that the second line is not the correct one, that is the old line for the newer oil lines and I had backdated mine... and of course, can't find the correct line in the pile of parts that I have... so ordered a new one. Oil tank reconditioned. Ordered a new oil level sender since the one in there was giving erratic measurements when I tested it... and now is the time to change all this... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543788552.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543788552.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543788552.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543788552.jpg |
Found the oil line! All set... tank to go in as soon as the rest of the parts get here. SmileWavy

Wachuko...beautiful work. Great vision.
I may have asked this before, but what kind of floor tile is that...ceramic or porcelain? How's your Fiat? Best, John/CT |
Quote:
I really wanted a checkered floor...but that was outside of the budget. Fiat is in need of a new home...have not had the chance to work on it. Wife is pushing me to get it on Craiglist... :(. Ignoring the request has worked so far...hehehhehe Focus right now is to finish the SC... replace the transmission and rebuild the steering rack on the 964... the 912 is waiting for a friend to finish the body work... SmileWavy |
Received the oil level sender today... installed!

Removed rear bumper to install some heat shield material... hope that is enough for the muffler to not damage the bumper...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1544323393.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1544323393.jpg Too many family related tasks that needed to be done today... could not get anything else done with the car... will continue tomorrow. SmileWavy |
Almost done with the oil system... had an email exchange with Chuck from Elephant Racing, to make sure I had the front lines installed correctly. So that is done. For this I had to take the front bumper off so took the opportunity to install the turn signals.
Installed the bumper back and also installed the lower lip... less stuff on the floor and more on the car... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1544417112.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1544417112.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1544417112.jpg |
