I see basically 4 pieces that need attention in your rocker panel area. There's significant rust on the outer rocker, at the base of the door striker plate, the front of the left rear fender and, if you look inside the rust hole, the kidney shaped support has a hole in it as well.
![]() If there are what look like pin holes above the door striker, That will need some attention too. Basically, all these areas are rusting from the inside. You only see what's burnt through. ![]() I would, at a minimum, pull that outer rocker off to thoroughly check the inner rocker. It’s hard to tell in the pic if the inner rocker is intact…my guess is that it’s not. I would be a little worried about simply treating with rust converter (phosphoric acid) and closing. You'll be back in there in a couple years. Just from what I've read here, you can safely leave the U shaped slits unwelded. They are designed to be that way. My 72 coupe has a little surface rust on and around a few of them but nothing bad. They are galvanized. Just make sure they are re-sealed. Maybe a real body person will chime in... I'm just a DIYer.

Thanks for the tips and yea, will definitely check some more further down on the rockers and make sure they are not chewed up by rust deeper inside than just on the outside surface. Will post it later as project progress...

I just listed some new jack tubes and supports in the for sale section.
Also, on my thread you can see the repairs that we did in that area.
