This is ugly- damaged 930- need some input
Hi all,
My 1987 930 (marine blue) met up with a tire wall in early May at a DE event. The driver's side is toast and the tail is cracked. Additionally, and not evident in the pictures below, the driver's side top corner of the windshield gasket has popped out. Roof is smooth but it seems the car might be slightly "twisted" or askew. I'm self insured on this one and the title is not affected. I've been looking at all my options and need to get a handle on what a full repair would look like in $$$ terms. I have a pretty good knowledge of the mechanical aspects of the car and what different repair jobs cost. However, when it comes to this stuff, I really don't have much understanding of the time involved, cost of parts, etc. So, I am hoping some of the experts on this forum can give me a starting place as it relates to the scope of the repair and maybe some shop referrals local to me (Westchester County, NY). The first picture below if of the car prior to damage. Those that follow were taken that day. I understand that nothing can substitute for actually seeing the car. But the photos below can help tell the story: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking and for any thoughts.

if the car was at my shop the 1st is all suspension would be dropped out and the car would be put on a celette bench . this would tell us if any of the suspension pickup points are off .
then the car would get a pre pull to get things kind of back to were they would need to be . then a new rocker , qtr , door and fender would be in stalled . as for cost it's many 1000's of dollars . pricing the cost on line is just to hard to do . 1st is labor rates change from shop to shop then even more from area to area . just in CT the labor rate is higher in the south east part of the state then it is in the other areas of the state by 10 dollars an hour . then there is the type of shop you pick to work on the car . if you take it to a high end type shop that only works on cars like porsches lambo's Ferraris then your looking at a labor rate of about 125 plus an hour were if you take it to the run of the mill type shop you wioll be paying 1/2 that hourly rate but they will have no Porsche or very little Porsche experience . we they may not know how to set the door gaps and totally screw up the car . even if some thing may not look bent it could be as the is a 5MM tolerance to be out of spec . that would be 2.5 MM plus or minus be fore it's out of spec . there is also the fact that a Porsche should not be pulled on a drive on bench . they do not have pinch welds on the under sides of the rockers to bolt the car on the bench . some drive bench CO's do offer clamps but we have had to repair porsches in the past that were pulled on benches like that for the shops pulling to hard of a hit . we have also in the past had to repair cars that were over pulled from the run of the mill shops the over pulled Porsche 911's thinking the door gaps were wrong because they open as the gap goes up to the top of the doors were the door meets the qtr.'s . |

OldSpool87- Sorry to see that damage on your very nice looking car. I am in CA but have shipped my car to Charles City Virginia to have a complete restoration based upon the work of Scott Burnett at Kahiko Customs. He is a Porsche fanatic and specialist. He has posted many many threads showing his work in progress and after searching for a quite a while I elected to use him to restore my original '71 914-6. His number is 804.397.5049. It may be worth your time to give him a ring and talk to him. Best wishes.
Michael
