Gulf Racing Blue and Orange... On a non-racing SC
I have an 83 guards red SC project. It is time for a color change. I like the blue and orange seen on the Gulf racing cars. I want to put something similar on my SC but I don't want to look like a poser. Has anyone seen any tasteful versions of those colors?

personally I never like when people paint there cars in Gulf or Martini colors they are just way over done .
hell there is a guy that drives around my area with a NC Miata sporting martini graphics on the car . I was at a car show this past summer and a kid had his Honda civic coupe painted in gulf colors . NO they are just way to over done for my liking ! it's one thing when the car was really raced under one of there banners but if it wasn't and they are not paying to put there colors on my car then why do it ? the color combo is nice of the gulf colors and I do like the way they look but if I want to see it I will look at a poster on the wall not on my car . with all the nice color combos and graphics you can do why do just another gulf car ? |

My sentiments exactly. Have you ever seen a toned down version of this combo?

10 15 years ago I did a gulf blue Carrera for a guy and painted the Carrera on the lower sides of the car in the Gulf orange .
we also painted the centers if his fuchs in the same orange . he loved it but I still think it was just to much like GULF ! |

Ha. Not just that which not everyone can do but also how knowledgeable you are about bodywork, paint, little unknown details, own your own business, and most of all the willingness to share that with all of us. I'm sure I there is much more.

![]() ![]() I have 5 up to date helmets I use for racing all I airbrushed . ![]() ![]() for my Miata because I could not find the early style badges and they did not offer a horn button and key ring with the early mazda emblems I airbrushed them . ![]() I own two 948's that would be a 944 with V8 motors I airbrushed the badges for both cars . ![]() you know your board as hell when you airbrush a door in the shop !the 962 is my car when it was yellow . the funny part is I forgot to put fuel caps on the motorcycle tank . how in the hell could I forget them ? ![]() we own some horses so I also had to airbrush my riding helmet for that along with the ones for the wife and kids . ![]() I also airbrushed my 1987 GTI I only have a photo of the hood but the hole car is airbrushed . I bought the car new and it's one of 5 cars I own that I will never sell . so do I like art HELL YES ! do I like the some old some old graphics people do on cars like Gulf and flames ? HELL NO ! with all the cool things you can do why keep doing the same old things . one of the businesses I own is a airbrush shop things I will not do any more are flame jobs . when the real flame paint jobs became popular I did 3 of them and that was it . there is no reason for me to be board as hell doing some flame job . I have not ever seen a Gulf , Martini or flame job what made me say WOW that is so cool . the only thing I say is good god another F***** one ! |

no one should go thru life not doing things for other . money is very important but life is so much more then that ! when you work on some thing like your own car and when it's finished you step back and say to your self that came out great and I did it my self . that is worth more then money ! when you build some thing your self have you ever just stood there for a long time looking at it after words ? the feeling from that only others that have built some knows the feeling you get inside your self from that . so if I can help in any way to give some one that feeling I my self also feel good from it . |

Nothing wrong with gulf blue on a regular street car I think it's a great color. Do want you want who cares what others think.
