Easiest way to strip door jams without blasting?
Was wondering what you guys use to strip things like door jams if your not blasting.
i usually simply sand enough to prime and paint.
why do you have to strip it to bare? Are there multiple paint jobs? Matt |
what matt said !
if you really need to strip it you could use a mini 3" DA with 80 grit . |
Paint has cracked and there are some surface rust areas.
Photos would help, but start sanding and see what you got. Everything down to bare is unnecessary though
if the paint is cracking and you have rust then mask off the hole jam on the back side of the pinch weld with duck tape and old bed sheets so no sand will get into the car . get one of the little hand held spot blaster and some fine 001 sand then blast the finish off . you could sand it off with 80 grit on a da but it will not remove the rust . just blasting every thing will give you clean metal to work with .
Definitely tape everything off extremely well or you will be finding sand for years.
Use aircraft paint stripper, brush it on, use a putty knife and scrape it off.
Thanks for the ideas.

I use a wire brush on a drilling machine to bring that area to blank iron. Works easily with perfect result.
