Considering color change - 82 SC
I've had my SC for over 15 years. It's a targa with nearly 200,000 miles on it. I'm going to have to refresh the interior and repaint it soon. It was resprayed once already, in the original color, before I bought it with 100,000 miles on it.
She looks like this now. ![]() I've always liked Continental Orange from the 70's line up, like this 77 911. ![]() I know the car loses value with a color change, but mines a run of the mill targa with lots of miles and no records prior to my ownership. Also, if I change color, modern paints are often base coat/clear coat. I'm guessing that would stand out like a sore thumb as non original and I would need to stay single stage? Thanks, Jerry

I am in the same boat and I am fond of the 70's colors. I don't think you purchased this car to sale, if you put 100,000 miles on it, so paint it the color you like and enjoy it.

Here's an orange '82 for you. It's a DuPont color I believe. The car was originally white and the PO had the color change done.

a two stage (clear coat, base coat) paint would likely look too shiny on a car of this age, wouldn't it?

Do not save it for the next owner. Do what makes you happy.

Continental is a great colour - the Targa would look sweet wearing that.

I love shooting single stage as you get alot more coverage, meaning you use a lot less materials.Btw its your car no worries about staying org.Plus its already been resprayed. If u need any advice let me know.Kevin

It's all about the big smile when you open the door to the garage. Stop worrying about values and enjoy the car the way you want it to be.

By the way continental orange was never technically a single stage as porsche sprayed a bright yellow ground color first to achieve the bright orange look without it was dead and dull. You can very likely achieve an almost identical match with today's 2 stage technology. As far as looking too nice well I think that's a matter of not colorsanding and buffing it to a glass like finish. Tell your painter that you want to achieve period correct factory orange peel.

I would change my sc Targa to that orange tomorrow if possible. Great choice! I am also a viper green fan too.
