The same. Porsche didn't start going with yellow until the 911 timeframe.

356 cars used a few different types of plating and are much harder to get correct compared to most 911s.
"...." is the way they are described in the parts manual which specifies the plating for hardware. They used "verz (verzenken)" which is commonly known as black oxide, "gal Zn 9" also known as black zinc, "gal zn 12" which is a silver colored zinc, "phr E" and "bost" which are also black in color similar to black oxide, and lastly they used cad type 1 which produces a grayish silver color. Cad type I or "clear cad" was used primarily for engine hardware from 1950 to 1965. If you know what your looking at clear cad and clear zinc look completely different but they are both silver. Most people don't dive this deep. If your going to a concours it becomes more important. If you just want it to look pretty original then BLACK N SILVER is what you need!

Piggy back on this thread but along the same line, if that is OK?
1962 B Super, does anybody know whether the valve covers were zinc plate or painted from the factory? Checked Bret Johnson's book did not specify. Thanks! |
