Make sure the tires have proper air pressure, check the oil.
Looks like a driver! Its like a time capsule!! Thats not a 50' is it? Looks like it has some rust and I thunk that the early cars were made out of out good buddy Aluminum. Or is aluminum rusting too these days? Bob O

Aluminum was on the '48 and '49 gmund cars...
Depending on whats missing or unusable it is probably worth restoring... gonna be big bucks though. Unless you have some deep need to do it, I'd part it out. There are a few folks on 356talk restoring 51/52/53 coupes....

The way those cars are going up in price, I'd say buy it (and take more pictures of its condition, it'll make for a great article someday). If you can't sink the fortune it'll cost to restore it, stash it somewhere. It's gonna be worth $$$ someday soon ! If the body has parts worth parting out, it's probably worth restoring !

I would gladly buy it also...broker it & make a few bucks instead of making a few bucks for all the work of parting it out. IF it is a genuine 50 cpe, it should be preserved!
Let me know. |

id leave it exactly the way it is, rust and all. make it drivable and take it to shows... gives it character and uniqueness. it will get waaay more attention than a over restored boring garage queen 356.

356 pre
Nahhh....I am out. Rennworks is MIA....i emailed him first day this post came out, non communication.
In the meantime I purchased an original right hand drive 356A...so that worked out way better for me. Still want to see some additional photos posted....maybe some good interior shots as well as nose and clip. There is always something cool about seeing pictures of a old three five six pulled out of the weeds after being hidden for so many years. Kinda gives you hope that maybe someday there will be one hidden down the street from your house in "old man Jacks" backyard somewhere! |

rennworks....very cool find, thanks for putting up the pics for everyone to check out. hold on to those bad girls. like deschodt said, even if you have to put them in hibernation for a while.
tell us more about the story on them and the previous owner...did he/she even know what they were? i bet they were farmers or goat who wanted them out of the way to build a chicken coop!...lol....give us some details on their background. |

Antonio, I bought the cars from my cousin. He almost buried the cars a few years ago when he rented a dozer to clean up his property. They were both running, driving cars when my uncle got them in the early 60s. I wished someone would have put them in a barn or somewhere out of the weather.

Yo Rennworks!
Can we get some numbers...more photos?? I love this kind of thread. I've found my share over the past 30 years, but I'm always intrigued by new finds. PLEASE.....SAVE....THIS...CAR! Don't part it out. Preserve our heritage. I'll help sponsor the resto, let me know what you need (within reason)...good luck! C. S.
