Nope, its taken care of by the distributor, loosen it and rotate to adjust advance. Same as 356, VW. Not sure if this applies to the 912E from the 70s...

The cam gear is connected directly to the crankshaft gear, so no chain.
I was about to say that because the air cooled VW and 356/912 are pushrod motors, the cam is next to the crank and thus doesn't need a chain, but my old Olds and Chevy V8's use a short chain to connect the crank and cam gears and its a pushrod motor as well. |
