I'm looking into my first 356 purchase, it is a project car, 1962 with four wheel disc brakes added. The link pins are shot, as is the tie rods and steering box.
are any of these parts same as VW (cheap and availiable) I have heard that a vw bug steering box will fit, is this true? (at $90 each it is a steal) The tie rods? and link/king pins?
Also the rust, the car has rust in the lower outer door skins, and battery tray.
has anyone ever repaired these? What is the going rate for a shop to do the door repair (weld in a new bottom skin) Since the car is in primer now, I only need consider the additional cost for body work, not the paint on the doors.
Does anyone recommend a San Fransisco Bay area shop that has done this type of repair so I may inquire on cost?
I hope to decide this week on this car, but i want to be realistic on the costs required to make it a driver.
Also are there any inexpensive deals on tranny mounts,and disc brake calipers (anticipating a rebuild, brake system is dry (leaked))
