Steve McQueen - 356 Speedster question
I am pretty sure that most of you know Steves black 58 Speedster. Mostly I read that it is pretty original, but it seems that it has been restored or at least changed in details.
When I look at old pictures of the car, I see that the badges are all there (Reutters etc.) and what is even more interesting, the letterings ("Porsche" on the hood, "Speedster" on fender etc.) seem to be gold on old pictures from the races. Today they are silver as far as I know. Can anyone confirm that they were originally gold? PS: What is the exact color of the carpeting in Steves Speedster? In the book "McQueens Machines" the carpeting looks light beige/ stone grey. Heres a picture of McQueen in his car during his active racing period with the Speedster. The letterings look different than the chrome bar on the side of the car for example (which makes me guess they were gold): ![]() (taken from porsche356registry.org) Even on this b/w shot, the lettering on the fender appears a bit darker than the chrome bar: ![]() (taken from sportscars.tv) Last edited by Carreracon; 06-05-2011 at 12:14 AM.. |

I think original is gold on all the 356s... the script on my '65 C coupe is faded/worn back to silver.. .
