Dash photos

So I thought I'd take some photos of an original Euro Dash.

Anyone familiar with the "Sportwagen plaque?

Certainly not an original steering wheel. What car is this?

Hey Les..

I remeber you from F-Chat.. How's your 356 project going?

Dash pics are from my 57 356A outlaw.. I get to over to my storage and stare at it from time to time. Waiting, to get other things out of the way so I can get started on this one. Maybe a year away.

The badges were placed on the cars in 1956, 1957 and 1958 model years. It was to market Porsches success as a German sports car champion.

Model Year (MY) 1956, the badge says 1950 -1955
MY 1957, badge says 1950-1956
MY 1958, badge says 1950-1957

My 65 Dash....
It's a factory 12 Volt car that was also a Euro Delivery. One very rare option was the inside/outside temp gauge mounted above the radio. This meant the clock had to be located over to the left. So two gauges in the center of the dash instead of one. US dealerships would drill a hole and mount the gauge over on the right side where the grab handle is.

Not sure what the wheel is as yet, have not removed it.. the horn button is interesting though.

So it looks like the badges precedes the model year of the car.

Telefunken is original to the car...

The dash in our '60 Super90. Not really much to look at, original euro speedo, tach converted to electric, restored/updated oil temp/fuel gauge/warning light cluster. The cigarette lighter is out because I had the laptop plugged in for tuning. It was a factory radio delete car, so no buttons, dials, or extra pods hanging under the dash. There is the little handle to the right of the glovebox.

I don't want to hijack the thread, and probably could re-post our build thread here, but for now here's a link: 356 Build Thread - Reutterwerk Forums .

Thanks for sharing. I think I remember this from somewhere. Please re-post the build thread for this.

I would like to pick your brain for details in the future as I think my Outlaw may end-up with efi on a 2.2-2.4 Type IV engine.

Thx

Paul

Nice dash

Bleucamaro I like the colour of your car, very nice, the uncluttered Dash looks good too.

I have just finished peeling my old dash upholstery out of the car what a dirty job that was, the dash metal in the cover is clean on one side, the underside and rusty as all **** on the windscreen side, so out comes the wheel and the POR15 again. But when I clean her off it should look good then reupholster with a new kit from our benefactors of the site, and voila, like new.

A PO had put two Smiths guages just above my radio, they have been put in very well and are nicely placed on the dash and don't look out of place, would have preferred that he hadn't done it, but can't have everything eh.

Here is a picture of the dash as it was was after sitting for 30 years in a garage of the PO. I have this last weekend polished all of the surrounds of the guages and they have come up lovely and shiny, I was very pleased how they came out. Will post a picture of them all shiny when I take one.

I must say I enjoy just sitting in the car polishing, it must be a therapeudic thing. Although the car is not running yet as I am not allowed to do anything mechanical on the car until we finish work on the other half's 72 911 lol!! I am polishing everything on the inside and the outside! And have ordered and received new upholstery for the front seats as the old ones were split. The colour match from Pelican's Autos International supplier was excellent for the original upholstery of the car.

Time to put dinner on!!

Charmaine

I wish it were a Polopolos. Hindsight being 20/20, if we had known more about them when we started, its the route we would have taken.

Not Megasquirt, we used 034 Motorsport / Pantera / Redline Weber (all same product, different brand names).
