1963 356b ignition switch problem

Last time trying to crank I turned the key all the way clockwise before returning to position to remove the key. All power was cut off and nothing, lights, radio, etc., has power. No start either.

Anyone have ideas. I am not a car geek. Took possession of this when my father n law couldn't drive anymore. It was hi pride and joy. I have his only grandson and was only son n law with a place to keep it out of the weather. He wanted it to stay in family, so I am trying to keep it running for my son to have. Don't want to have to tow it to mechanic.

Thx for any help.

Nuts

I'm not sure I understand.
Was the engine running when you turned the key all the way clockwise (to the "start" position)?

Did this occur when you were trying to start the engine?
