hell turn signal switch identification- need help!

Possible 356?!
Hey guys, I usually buy parts from Germany for bugs/ghias and the like. I recently got a Hella red tip turn signal switch and was told that it didn't fit on an early bug steering column, as well as it was too long. I was hoping one of you guys could check out some pictures and tell me what you think.
From pictures it looks about an inch or two longer than the "common" bug ones. The way it mounts might be for a 356?
