CV Joint Boot Question
One of my inner boots is torn and leaking grease. If I take the 6 bolts out on the transmission side, i'm assuming the cap should come off easily. Once that comes off and the circlip is out, does the CV joint simply slide out easily or needs to be pressed out? Pelican instructions don't mention anything about a press. I assume it just slide off which gives you the opportunity to then replace the boot.
Is there anything else i should know about? thanks eugene

Should slide out yes. I strongly recommend you take the entire axle out and work on it at the bench. Replace both boots while you are it too. Oh, and double the amount of shop towels you think you need.

I was trying to avoid taking it completely out. Is it really that pain to work under the car to get the new boot in?

Do you have a lift? That’s really the only want I can see that method working. There’s a big circlip that holds the CV to the axel shaft. It’s a little tricky to get on/off with the assembly in a vice. Not sure hold you would stabilize it all to work the clip.

Just make sure the CV doesn’t come apart as it a bear to reassemble properly.

Fair point. It is a pain the butt to get that nut off but i've got a long enough breaker bar to do it. I just replaced the other side complete axle, so not my first rodeo at it.

Well, you could always try it without taking it completely off and if that doesn't work then take it off.
But to answer your original question; yes, it's just a circlip holding the inner in. |

CV axle vertical in a vise
Due to circlip tension, external circlip pliers takes two hands Need someone else to stick a screwdriver under the circlip when its expanded to lift past end of shaft EMPI still sell the boots, comes with correct grease. Massage other CV boots with Armorall

Remove the entire axle from the car.
Its easier that way.
