911Sc 993 3.6 conversion oil light and low drunk after a repair
Hey everyone,
I’m a bit perplexed with my cars recent issue. (Background- 81 911sc to 95 3.6 conversion, I have about 3000 miles on the conversion with no issues up to today’s repair) The car has a elephant racing front and fender mount oil cooler, this morning I noticed a small oil leek between the front oil cooler and the oil line (there is a wide mouth oil fitting between the cooler and the oil line.) I took the front cooler off and tightened everything down, when I removed the bumper I accidentally sepperated the fender oil cooler temp sensor to the fan, but I doubt this is related. Anyway tightened the fittings, reinstalled the cooler and added a quart of oil. A few minutes after I started the car the oil light came on and the drunk pressure read under 1, maybe .65 bar. I checked the oil and added a few quarts to get the oil to the full mark, but the oil light and low drunk remain. At this point I don’t want to run the car with suck low pressure ![]() One other detail, if I rev the car the light turns off and the drunk pressure rises I’m not sure what when wrong as this has never been an issue... any ideas?

Extra, if I start the car cold it will hold 1.5 bar for a few minutes before the car will drop below 1 bar and the oil light will turn on-

Get a mechanical oil pressure gauge and hook it up.

2 things
the oil pressure sender and gauge don't match unless you changed it, stock 3.6 sender w/ earlier gauges read 2x actual the gauge at idle always reads low, rule of thumb it should go up ~ 1bar/1000rpm, so at 4k rpm 4bar

a few questions,
is there a specific size mechanical oil pressure gauge I need for the 95 engine? also, I'm not sure if the timmings swap fixed the gauge reading half to correct somehow, but prior to today the car was always between 2-5, it read just like my old 3.0 engine did... seems weird that it would read half and stay in the range so well- any thoughts? thank you all for the help.

It's hard to imagine the work you described in the 1st post as causing an issue On a '95 993 the pressure sender is located on top of the engine behind the intake This is a 964 but the sender is the same as for a 993, just left of center between the vacuum can and the cc vent ![]()
