Sachs clutch disc changes

Just ordered a replacement Sachs disc from our host and noticed the disc looks quite different than the same part number unit I put in back in 2011.

915.116.011.22 Sachs part number 1878 005 583 ~’72 -‘86 911

I suppose Sach might change construction over time but it concerns me that newer unit does not seem to have as wide a friction area and the newer unit has a single spring in each location where the older version has a nested dual spring in each location.

Any experience? I use this in a hp engine with upgraded pressure plate.

10mm less across the facing. I don't like it either, but it is what it is. Seems to work on street cars at least.

I seem to remember a change in the mating surface material to compensate for less surface area. If not, and an hp application = more slippage and increased wear rate. I would share your concern. Sachs is a good company, would be surprised if friction material was not modified.

I went through the same concerns. If it helps I installed a KEP stage 1 with this new updated sachs disc behind my 930 motor with 915 trans and it works great so far. KEP also makes a disc that has the larger friction surface like the older sachs units if your looking for something else to use.

If you look at the spline in the center, it looks like a Porsche spline in a universal disk.

BTW, I have been using an aftermarket disk, (I think it also fits some Ford?) in my car for several years and have not had problems.

I'd be more concerned if the outer diameter was smaller. Inner probably has less of an effect.

Ordered a new Sachs disc and was ready to send it back! Did a quick search and it looks like most of the threads on this were a little old. Any updates on the 'less surface area'? I didn't find anything relatively new. Is this just the way it is now? Thanks

Isn't there a Ford disk that shares the same basic dimensions as the 915?

If the only change is the loss of 10mm inner diameter friction surface, the clutch will actually handle more torque. I’m sure it will work just fine.
