Dont shred your door strikers.....
They are not an Allen Key and they are not a Torx bolt, they use an 8mm "triple square socket". Bolts come preloaded with lock tite so they are a ***** to get out if you strip them and you will without the right tool.

I’ve also seen these called XZN sockets. They take the door strikers off easily when attached to a moderately-sized breaker bar. Pro tip I saw on here: undo one bolt entirely, loosen the other - but leave it screwed in for a moment. Swivel the door striker out of its own way and put the first bolt back into the empty hole. Then remove the other bolt and you’re holding the striker in your hand without risking some kind of backing plate sliding around inside the door frame.

![]() A set of them are pretty cheap from the auto parts store. I have seen them (fasteners) on newer VW's. Napa sells a much higher quality set. KD, I think. You pay for them.

I replaced mine last year after seeing the plastic was broken inside. These are not something that you'd normally associate as a wear item.

There's a kit to replace the plastic inserts.

Wow, lots of great advice here. I got new strikers and had planned to do the job with a Torx. You guys saved me from. Disaster.

Great upgrade. Less than an hour to do both sides. The passenger side was in slightly better shape, but not by a lot. Plastic pieces were pretty gnarly after 30+ years.

might be a good idea to mark off with a temporary marker where they go on the body before removing them . Will make alignment easy.

So has anyone found a reasonably-priced triple square bit set? I've found some online, but they all seem to use 3/8" drive for the 12mm size, and I would prefer 1/2" (for flywheel bolts).
Might have to just get the 12mm separately. Mark
