Post 915 gear ratios Question.

Did all 915 tranmissions for non-turbos(I am not even sure if the turbo used the 915 since it had 4 gears)come with the same gear ratios? Does anyone know the gear ratios for a 77' Carrera 3.0? I am considering changing gear ratios on my tranny when I get fixed the second gear syncro.

ratios have been a little different from year to year. Anderson's handbook gives good detail on the subject, as do other souces.
I'm putting a SC 5th gear in my Carrera for better terminal speed.
Other options include utilising the old R&P out of the pre '73 car.

John, Thanks for the reply
I hope to get some more feedback, maybe I can benefit from the gears in other year models rather than buying brand new expensive ones. I just ordered Bruce's book, so many people refer to it that it is like an Appendix to this board.

The 76-77 Carrera 3.0 used the following gear sets;
  • 11/35 3.18
  • 18/33 1.83
  • 23/29 1.26
  • 26/26 1.0
  • 28/23 .82
with an 8/31 r/p.

Probably the most cost effective way to get lower gears is to buy 15" wheels for your track tires. With the same profile tires, you will get better gearing than 16's.

I don't know the guy, but these look like a good choice:
