Help diagnose 3 bad coils

Need your help......I have a 76 911S Targa with a stock 83 3liter (no performance upgrades) installed by the PO. I’ve driven the car 1.5k miles the last three years and have gone thru three coils and taken it to three different shops to remedy so far without a solution as my third failed a couple days ago ironically on the way to the shop to tune it to pass the smog test.

I removed the AC system, radio from the dash and amplifier and CD player from the frunk, everything else is stock.

The shops have checked the ground and it appears ok.

I’ve read about poor quality coils and that’s a separate issue as I believe my car is causing the coils to fail. Have any of you experienced recurring coil failures and how did you fix?

Appreciate your input in advance!

Are they silver bosch coils? Wouldn't trust one right out of the box. Find a used original bosch black coil.

Thx, John! Three silver coils different manufacturers. Best place to purchase Black Bosch foil is from one of Porsche dismantlers?

People seem to like the Parts klassik CIS replacement coil.

Same here. It is very annoying and just a total shame that if we go to the dealer, order a coil in a Porsche box right from Porsche, it is a piece of junk, and a used 30 year old coil is better right from a dismantler.

That should embarrass Porsche.

A good alternative is an MSD 8222 blaster coil. Works fine with the stock bosch 3 and 6 pin boxes. Just heat the big decal and peel it off.

Thank you all for your input. I’m flabbergasted that three brand new coils have failed and the old black Bosch work. I’ll likely try the MSD 8222 blaster as it will be easier to find than an original black Bosch.

Thx again!

totally forgot that , I was running that for 6 months till I got an original coil . I only stopped running it because I thought it was tacky looking .
didn't think of peeling off the sticker.
