'88 OUTLAW // Build Thread

I would like to introduce the car I have been working on over the past 8 months. I have posted pictures on Rennlist and for those enthusiast who check both boards I apologize.

All work completed by myself with the exception of actual engine work. That I left to a very capable professional. I do not do this for a living it is strictly a hobby. This is my first attempt at an air cooled Porsche. It is not my first Hot Rod/Muscle Car.

Paint and paint restoration, Interior, Electrical, Mechanical systems all freshened by yours truly.

I located this under the passenger seat so I would have some tunes. I used the factory radio location to relocated the a/c controls, removed from the center console. Your blue tooth device is now your music.

What carpeting did you use on the inside? Is that black perlon or plus?

I have a white SC, which is currently gutted, but debating between black or grey RS carpet.

Very nice build, welcome!

Welcome. Looks great. Have you considered setting it down a bit from its current stance?

Not an option. My approach at work and home are extremely difficult. I can lower it........... but then I wouldn't be able to take it anywhere.

Looks good!

Well done sir. Your attention to detail is admirable. I wish more of us took the kind of time and effort that you have. The AC to stereo location is very nice! I like the track floor mats too. Definitely a top 5 DIY interior that I've seen. Are the seats from GTS classics? They look like some he was offering.

No sir, I tried Stephan he was just too busy for my schedule..... I went with Classic Touring Seats | Modern Seats with a vintage look He was ready to ship.....and considering I was having to recover what I bought, a bit less expensive.

Jon I am of no help with that question..... I love them. I use soft soled shoes when I drive and I do not daily drive this car......... Heck I just finished the car about 2 weeks ago.........finished is a relative term.

AG81,

She's a beauty, how did you manage a complete (all 3 vents) 86-89 dash?

Well done sir, and welcome.

Thank you Scott.
The Dash was the least of my issues. If it had looked like the seats and floors I would not have bought the car.

What I started with:

Cool build!
Just wondering what Bluetooth setup you are using?
I was going to buy a bluetooth amp (Kenwood) and radio delete but if there is an separate unit I can run might give me more amp options to choose from.

madcorgi 07-16-2018 05:09 PM

Beautiful build, Jules. I’m building the exact same car—white 85 coupe. Have you considered backdating the heating system? Really cleans up the engine compartment.

madcorgi....... I had no plans to back date or to do any major mods to this motor. I refreshed major parts and had every possible mechanical issue resolved. My long term plans are a 4.0l motor. I just wanted to get the car presentable, respectable and fun to drive.

Jules, I used a JL Twk-88 System Tuning DSP. This unit is way more sophisticated then I needed but integrated with the blue tooth and gives me remote volume and sub volume control. I used JL's XD700/5v2 5 channel amp and a Advanced Multi Audio Streaming interface -AMAS 2 by MOSCONI. This module is for streaming audio via Bluetooth. Devices with a profile such as smartphones, music players, pad and tablet connecting
via Bluetooth act as a source for the audio system.

Very nicely done. Congrats on a clean execution. I have an 89 Carrera and I am saving my pennies for a similar output except that I am going to backdate it (in a manner that can be put back to original).

I love the finer details like the exposed gear linkage and removable sub. Well done!!

Can you post more pictures (with better lighting) of the carpet with the trackmats and rennline floorboards?

AG81 07-16-2018 07:29 PM

This is probably the best one I have right now.
