1 7/16 is a hair too big. I got one of those open sockets for the work some years ago and it as I said was a bit too big. I might suggest the harbor freight metric large shorty wrench set. they got from like 20mm to 36mm and are prefect. they are short wrenches with a tapered handle for cheater bar application.

36mm is correct. I have a set of oil line wrenches I got from another porsche supplier almost 20 years ago and they are 36, 32, 30 and 27. 36 gets used ALL the time.

edit............. the name got nixed by the forum word blaster. I gots ways around that!!!

I wanted a flare type 36 mm so I bought a Ford axle nut deep 36mm socket for $8, cut off the last 3/4" of the socket, welded it to a 1/2" drive extension and then cut a slot in the socket to pass around the oil line. Worked great because the flare wrench could not slip off the 36 mm nut. Easily turned with a 1/2" drive ratchet. It was the only way I could reach up from below and tighten the nuts onto the external thermostat.

I found them to be anything but perfect. The 30mm was about 31mm and the jaws were cut or ground at an angle. It was gouging my oil line and finally stripped it. I found a 30mm box wrench at Home Depot for $10 and cut the box end to mimic a line wrench, it worked much better.

Photo attached. You can see the socket with the cut marks on it. It still works as a socket.

I found them to be acceptable. I did a search on HF to attach a link but it appears they no longer carry them.
