x-faktory: 74 Wide-body Project, 3.6 with PMO ITBs, Dual EDIS & M'squirt

This is the latest project in the shop. Very cool Widebody 74, owned by my friend Brooke (Brooke has a separate thread covering the suspension, etc.) Brooke has done a fantastic job on the suspension. cooling etc. and now the 74 is in my shop for a little more Moto-vation. Stock 2.7 is out, to be replaced by a 3.6 w/PMO ITBs, Dual EDIS ignition, M'squirt, B&B headers, Dansk sport muffler........Trying out some new coils from DIYAutotune as they accept standard Clewett plug connectors vs. the EDIS specific connectors. We'll soon see how they work.
Here's a few pix of the progress, to date.

Started wiring it up today....should have the engine installed and maybe the wiring completed by end of day, Monday.

I am using the MS2, 3.57. I get these pre-assembled and tested from DIYAutotune and they are awesome ECUs. I've installed many of these, they have have tons of capability/features and DIY provides decent tech support.

I've had very good results with both Megasquirt and the AEM/Infinity (the ECU included with the Rasant kit) I always discuss the system requirements with my clients and based on the project goals....shoot for the best price/performance choice.

regards,
al

That set-up looks amazing! Can't even imagine what an engine like that in my '71 T Targa would be like....

Recently completed an install of this same 3.6 EFI setup w/AEM Infinity ECU (Rasant) in a 73 Targa........it is very fast......

note: When you are planning for a significant increase in power, you need to also consider your suspension, tires and brakes as part of the overall system upgrade.

I am in complete agreement with Al on this. I went and upgraded all the systems on this car in advance of installing the bigger motor. Suspension consists of 22 and 28 t bars with custom valved Bilstein struts with raised and decambered spindles, RSR adjustable sway bars front and rear, and all new rubber bushings all around. Brakes are 993 calipers over 930 rotors all around with 23mm MC and new SS flex lines. Oil cooling is upgraded with new thermostat, hard lines, front fender cooler with fan and center cooler behind the valance. Fuel system got all new lines (including hard lines through the tunnel), Bosch 044 pump, and filter and pressure regulator. Transmission got upgraded to an ‘84 Euro 915 with external cooler and lsd. The car should be ready to romp with the new motor in place.

As Al said, he has had good experience with mega squirt on similar builds, so I did not have concerns with going that route. I decided to go this way partially for the experience. I have other cars running Motec and AEM, so I wanted this one to run MS for comparison purposes.

suspension

When i took Brooke's 74 out for a pre-3.6 install run, I was very impressed with the suspension. So much so, that I will duplicate it on my 69 project.

regards,
al

I just wanted to make a comment here on this subject. Like Al I install a number of EFI systems for others. I also get support request by email and PMs for self-install EFI systems.

The Megasquirt systems has nearly all the functions of AEM, Motec and other more expensive ECUs. What it comes down to is... You really don't use some of these functions in an old 911 install. So why pay for them?

I like the MS systems and usually have the same cost to benefit discussion with my customers.

Al. Keep on making it happen.

Stick a fork in it

I've spent quite a bit of time on the installation and tuning of Brooke's 3.6 (EFI/ITB's, M'squirt, Dual EDIS) into widebody 74 project.....but it is a done deal.....running fast and strong....
