Need to replace hi/low beam switch... gurus opinion needed

Yesterday Ohms law has killed my light switch. I recently replaced my H4 and last night I leaved High beam on while parking.
After some seconds there was burnt electrical/plastic smell in the cabin and suddenly the high beam switched off.
A fast overhaul shows melted plastic inside the switch... now It has to be replaced.
(luckily only the switch!!!)

My switch is 911 613 303 30 from SWF



I already have a good used one but it has a different part number 911 613 301 00
As you can see it has it's different in design and searching at PET for this part produces no results (so I do not know if this can be mounted on a 1973 2.4 T Euro)



Question: can anyone tell if this switch can be used in place of the original SWF 911 613 303 30 ???

I'd like to avoid spending 400$ for a light switch but I do not want to burn the eintire electical system.

please help.

P.S: Please do not suggest me installing Jwest relais ... it's too late :-)

Chances are the difference is the stalk.

Fizeus..you can use the later model of combo switch on your 911 ,only it will look funny.I do have the original switch somewhere at home in box i will look for it and maybe you would want to buy it?Just moved my garage supplies 1400 km throu Europa..
I do not need to sell it only if you like ...

and yes, do not forget to install the relays into the system...or get your self LED H4 light bulbs .I just got them and replaced them last weekend 80 euros.

If you don't install the relays you will just keep burning switches up from excessive current. An bad decision.

Ivan, what LED headlights do you have? How many watts are they versus standard halogen bulbs? Do they require fans for cooling?

I probably haven't explained the problem very well. Excuse me please.

The replacement switch I already have seems to be a previous version of the currently installed (and melted) switch.
The replacement has part Id 911 613 301 00 while the original has part id 911 613 303 30.

The switch arm is similar, so it will look OK, but electric enclosure is different.

Is it safe to install?

As long as the plug connector is the same I don't see why it wouldn't work. As others mentioned, get a headlight relay kit. These kits allow the relay with contacts designed to carry the current to carry the power thereby saving the contacts of the switch itself from meltdown.

Hi Targalid..i have H4 headlights and here is the detail info about the light bulbs.They come with fans already...
