Cleaning Deck Lid Louvres

The rectangular grate, with horizontal fins like louvres, is part of the rear deck lid and sits right above the engine. It is made of black plastic. '78 911SC. Mine has turned sort of a hazy grey. I think it should be black. Has anybody successfully cleaned/refurbished this? How?

Try a soft paint brush/soap.

If that fails, remove primer & re-paint with heat paint.

I removed mine (6 t-bolts, 6 tiny nuts, 6 tiny washers) and had it Cerakoted flat black.

It's easier to get out if you've removed the A/C condenser, but not hard either way.

Guys, I'm not sure I want to paint it. I'd rather just restore to original. It is made of plastic. I am thinking that a good cleaning and coat of silicone would make it look new, but I just do not know what to clean it with.

I would suggest using CarPro Dlux on it. Make sure to follow directions on cleaning prior to applying coating. I’ve had it applied to all the exterior rubber and plastic trim like around the mirrors, it will bring that dull grayish finish back to a bright glossy black color.

Or just use their Perl which is for plastic, exterior, rubber and leather. It will give it a deeper color but you will need to reapply, I guess monthly depending on weather and if car is left outside.

The plastic has been in the ozone and UV for 40 years; I don't know if there's any undoing that.

Not sure if you want the grille to be glossy. I don't think they came that way.
