Targa interior bar trim

Hi,
As part of the effort to reduce (probably impossible to eliminate) the squeaks, rattles and weird noises on this car I found my interior targa trim was barely hanging by the side bolts, nothing else was holding it in place.

I also fixed the leather coming undone on few rear trims.

I noticed the interior targa trim is held by a system of locking pins.
One needs to slide the trim from the back of the car to get the trim locked.

This seems to be a challenge as the portion of the trim is hitting the rear window seals thus the condition of my trim, I guess the previous owner just abandoned the idea and left it as is.

What is the trick of tucking the trim in place?
I will attempt to put felt at areas that have leather on leather and plastic on plastic to reduce the creaks.

Thank you

Hello - take a look at the link below to an earlier thread where the targa bar is reconditioned. Hope this helps you out a bit!

Hey, that's my thread!

Ayles is really the expert. I have now replaced my windshield and targa window seals, so my bar cover is back out again.

I'm following along, and re-redoing mine.

Consider installing a Targa Body Brace, this will reduce allot of top squeeks and make the car less the dreaded Targa/Cab flex

Hi there!

It's now going on a few years since I have done this... on each of the tabs there was a piece of felt split between the top and the bottom. Maybe a half inch square on each tab. That should quiet it a little there as well.

I needed help to get the bar in. I wasn't able to engage all of the tabs on my own. You will feel it lock into place and it will be snug up against the front portion.

Bret Krause has a Targa harness bar that has a similar construction to the body braces. I got one on eBay for $100 and they have come up a couple time since. Car is sold as a rock since I put it in.
