911-617-124-04-OEM - Cruise Cable NLA

had a WOT experience this morning - see thread: WOT/over-rev and persistent hesitation - and now it seems the part causing the problem is NLA. as some other members have experienced, the cable came away from the adjustment bracket on my car and then the inner sleeve hooked onto the bracket and caused the WOT issue. people are using zip-ties, hose clamps and epoxy to fix the cable to a 'working order'. is that the only option left now? this certainly seems like a part that would need to remain available to me, but i seem to be flat out wrong. anyone know anything more??

this seems like a potential match and is still available - 911-617-124-02-OEM. this is listed for the 78-83 SC, but shows the same parts diagram. i'm planning a hose clamp/safety wire repair on mine temporarily (or longer), but still curious if this is a direct fit possibly for the 3.2 cable. anyone know?

Hi, was wondering if you ever overdosed if this will fit a 3.2?
I have an 84 and I met someone online that has it, I just need the cable from it actually, my servo is fine but the cable broke.
thanks

I came up against the same issue. My original cable just snapped off, and I looked everwhere for a replacement. I finally found a used one from a dismantler. It was typical of many of the used ones, the plastic tabs that hold it in position on the bracket were messed up. A chris cross of zip ties hold it tightly. It is kinda ugly, but totally functional.

I would love to find a new bowden cable to replace it, but that is not something likely to happen soon. I have heard that if Porsche gets enough requests for a NLA part they will order up some replacement parts. They would likely be crazy expensive, but maybe someday.

Thanks for the reply.
I see that the SC cables are offered brand new, not sure why the 3.2 cables are not??
I was told somewhere during my journey that they may be coming out with a cable but who knows the validity of that.....
There are so many obscure parts still available, just do not understand why they would not continue to produce a cable.
I do feel lucky though as I was just able to procure an NOS Sachs clutch disk before they changed them for 130 bucks.

strangely, googling "911-617-124-04" brings up several vendors that indicate this item is available and in stock

The Porsche dealers all use the same site and just add their name to the top along with adding their own discount percentage, I have used Sunset Porsche and Gaudin Porsche.
On the site it shows available but if you try and order it they will either call/email you and tell you it is not available, ask me how I know

If you are seeing availability on a site that is not an official Porsche site I would love to know.
Thanks

yeah, for some reason the Porsche sites still show availability but it's only until after you order you discover that it is not available.
Appreciate the help

Criss-cross a couple of zip ties around that black plastic retainer and it's bracket to keep it in place. Cheap fix.

I replaced my cable that is inside the sheath with a guitar string, used the old sheath. dont recall which string I used. the little knob on the one end fit into the servo and I used a very small wire clamp at the TB.

$2

That is a great idea a Guitar string, thanks for sharing. I know you said you forget what size string, but can you at least help with the nut you used at the end?
Any help is appreciated! I have the engine just about ready to put back in and my trans is shipping back right now from CMS and this issue has really been buggine me.

Thanks!!!

I just got my Mcmaster order today, the stud for the alternator signal wire broke off, they have everything.
Thanks for the help, now I just need to find the correct size wire to use.
