Sensor location for Auto heat controller
Anyone know were the internal temp sensor would be for a 1979 911 SC Targa , I have checked behind internal mirror
Thanks |
That’s where it goes on the 0-10 controller.

Sensor.
For our M/Y 86, it is located to the right of the steering column.

Thanks Gerry mine has a different arrangement
The vents are rectangular I will try and get the fronts off and see of anything in there Jeff |
I mentioned it is in the dash In one of your other posts
|
Maybe the 79 is different(?)
Could it be tucked up under the dash and not have it's own 'vent' ? (it's really not a 'vent' but an aperture sort of). |

Jeff, when you get the front off would you post a pic of the sensor? Thanks
|
I have been all over the under dash board and bought a cheap enderscope to look down the vents but still no look
The wire does head that way somewhere behind the dash I will keep looking perhaps it's been removed in the past! |
Up until MY '85 the cabin auto-heat sensor was located on the roof in between the sun visors...

Mark.
Was so for the Targa Jeff |
If you had auto-heat (i.e. the original control box between the seats could be adjusted from 0 through 1-9 to DEF), that is the only location for the cabin temp sensor prior to '86.
Mark |
Mark,
The interior light is in this location |
|
To make sure I'm not going senile, I just checked with a couple of Targa owning Buddies.
They both confirm they have the cabin temp sensor between the sun visors the same as the Coupe. They also confirm that their interior lights are in the Targa hoop. So it would seem if a Targa came with the auto-heat option the interior light was relocated. If so, maybe your car never originally came with auto-heat, just the manual version. Is your car an original RHD UK spec car, or an import? Mark |
Hi Mark it's a right hand drive registered in England
It definitely did have the controller as all the wiring is visible under the unit , perhaps the sensor was relocated sometime in the past Jeff |
It's a real mystery I need to try and trace the wire I think the sensor has been cut as there is open circuit
Jeff |
Jeff is your auto heat working....?

The manual heater unit would have had a controller that looks the same, except for the dial only being 0-3 and it some had wiring underneath. Not just relocating the sensor, but the interior light as well? Does the car have the temperature sensor in the nearside air duct just ahead of the flapper boxes (under the car next to the gbox)?
