Is "bed liner" better fuel tank protection???

My 74 sat for 6 years, pumped it out and pulled it for cleaning. While wire wheeling the rust off the flanges, I encountered some ugly rust, while removing it, I found some perforation - new tank time.

So I now have Pelicans galvanized TRG new tank and I want to protect it, particularly, the bottom, where the schutz and paint had scraped through, causing surface rust. Does anyone have an opinion regarding "Schultz/paint" versus bed liner? I got a rough quote of about $150-175, but I need to have it "sealed with a good coat of auto paint", to prevent lifting of the liner. I'm all ears, Thanks guys, Chris |

Couldn’t have timed this better. I just bought some today to try on my fuel tank which I just stripped to bare metal. I can care less about it being correct but it should be better.

How tough is the flex seal??

My primary concern is protecting the bottom of the tank from impacts and scrapes. I know the bed liners are specifically formulated to protect the bed from the rough handling that trucks receive.

Obviously nothing is going to endure being constantly dragged over asphalt. I briefly considered magnesium skid plates, but their proximity to fuel might be problematic :-) The sample bed liner looked to be roughly 1/4 inch thick and really tough. "Correct" appearance is way, way back of protection. chris |
