H4 headlight fastening nut?

Can any one confirm that the stock RoW H4 headlight fastening nut is M5 w/ .8 thread pitch?

I need to run a tap through to clean some buggered threads.

I did measure it but just need confirmation that my old brain & eyes are still functioning.

You are correct Bill, these are M5 x 0.8 thread.

Was just checking the same thing half way around the other side of the world.

I bought new bolts, but need to run a chase tap through one side.

In case that doesn't work, got any pics?

Bill,

You are correct M5 x 0.8 is proper.

I also have some Japanese Moto pre 72/ISO M5 taps in my German tap set with a different pitch (1.0).

SIDE BAR:

Screws for chrome rings can be hard to find lately. Anyone have a source that actually has the chrome screws in stock?

Old machine threads in an old sheet metal bucket tab can be tricky. My headlights appear to have seen many different screws used over 40 years.

My repair option: I have a bag of these in my electrical box. G-Nuts have an actual nut unlike U-Nuts which are threaded punched sheet metal.

Grainger: M5-0.80 G Style Spring Nut, Zinc Plated, Steel,

PK10

I'm the one who made the screws available again about 5 years ago. I'm having trouble with my manufacturer... but I've been promised another run "soon". Whatever that means....

Instead of the 2 factory screws, I'm using a single button head M5 -.8 x23mm, w/ a small plastic washer

Makes for an easier install too as I can use a wobble 3mm hex instead of a screwdriver, Evn a stubby screwdriver was iffy wrt painted surfaces
