Anyone build a 66x92 short stroke 2.6?

I should probably put this in the engine building forum but this place I think has more traffic.

I am about to get started on a 68 SWB sports purpose build and am considering my engine options largely based on the parts I have already.

One option I am considering is a 66x92 utilizing 2.8 RSR pistons and cylinders.

I'd like to hear from you if you have built one, had one built, driven one, ridden in one or know somebody that has this type of engine.

Thank You in advance,

Jay

I built a 2.6 L for my '70 914/6 - many, many years ago. I used 4.2 (aka Solex) cams, and mildly ported 2.2 "T" cylinder heads. I "fed" the engine with 40mm Webers, and, if memory serves me, an ignition distributor curved to match the camshafts. My piston/cyl set were 92mm Mahles, and the bottom end was the original, stock, 914/6 engine.

The car, with "M, S, X" gears in the original gearbox with 7:31 ring and pinion, was an absolute stump puller. One evening on the way home from work I came across a very healthy sounding 289 Cobra, much to his chagrin I stayed side by side with him from about 20 mph to a higher (ahem) speed.

I turned a 1 minute 36 second lap on the big track at Willow Springs Raceway with the car in its narrow bodied configuration, fitted with 7" wheels and Goodyear slicks.

Definitely an exciting ride!

Thanks Peter. Sounds like it could be a fun engine. ...trick will be making it work with the parts I have. I may punt but we'll see.
