Swaybar install question

I have recently purchased Elephant Racing front and rear swaybars for my 1976 911S.

My question is, what do you do with the old rear swaybar mounts? Particularly the steel mounts that are attached to the aluminium suspension arms.

Can they be removed? Are they cast into the Aluminium?

I read somewhere that you just cut them off with a grinder, however I'm reluctant to destroy original equipment.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Not sure which bars you have, since elephant has a couple different bars, but the most common ones attach the drop link to the spring plate. If that's the case I would just leave the old mounts alone, no need to remove them.

I thought the steel balls just unscrewed from the trailing arms?

Thank you. I got the Retro RSR bars and yes they do install to the spring plates. I was just concerned that they would foul the original 'Ball' mounts. If there's heaps of room it'll be OK to leave them.

Cheers.

I hope that they do. I'm sure someone told me years ago that they have to be cut off if you want them removed.

I was hoping someone had done this install before and could enlighten me.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely give it a go.

Cheers.

There are actually two types of the early sway bar mount. There is the earliest style with a hex base cast into the aluminum trailing arm, and the later style (midyears) that have the fully integrated cast ball in the sway bar. The later style cannot be unscrewed. You have two options in terms of accommodating the sway bars to early aluminum trailing arms with the ball which are: machine it off, or replace with SC/Carrera trailing arms.

The best option is to simply move to a sway bar that uses the attachment on the spring plate.
