Bad threads in strut?
I just removed and cleaned off my struts, I discovered BOTH threaded holes in right strut which mounts to the brake caliper is shot, I could wiggle my threading pin circa 1-2 cm at each direction.
The bolt it self is in bad condition, rounded edges in the thread. I just bought M12 1.75mm bolts DIN912 grade 12.9 (pretty high tensile strength stuff), I tapped the holes in the strut to M12 1.75, should I worrying about my life when I drive this car?. Or should I hardsoldering some more material and rethread with M12 1.5 and forget my new grade 12.9 bolts?. FYI: DIN912 Grade 12.9 bolts is used in Movit hardware. |
I just looked after my old bolts to the same mountings, these was grade 8.8!, 800MPa tensile strength compared to 1200MPa tensile strength for the grade 12.9
IŽll stick to these bolts and use a locking nut in the opposite side of these holes I retapped. |
