oil pressure sender

what is the thread size of the oil pressure sender. I would like to either use my pressure tester direct using an adaptor or install a split with a gauge to see while working in the engine bay without disconnecting the cockpit gauge.

1983 sc engine

I install a mechanical pressure gauge when I do a startup run for the engine/s on my engine test stand. Not home at the moment and could not exactly remember the metric to standard fitting adaptor. Word of advise, do not attempt to remove/install the pressure sender while installed on the engine. Disconnect the cam tower oil line, then the through bolt, and finally the block holding the pressure sender.

Then remove the pressure sender from the block while it is on the vise. Do the same way when you decide to install the mechanical pressure gauge with a suitable adaptor. In my case, I have a spare block with a mechanical pressure gauge installed already. So I just swap the “block” during my tests.

Most important is do not over torque the through bolt for the pressure sender block when you are done. There was a thread about this incident in this forum.

I have a testing gauge with adaptors but was considering the longer term investment of a dedicated unit from paragon (www.*****************.com/Oil-Pressure-Gauge-p/nerp-911mopg.htm)

then its just one swap and becomes a permanent fixture. of course i end up with a testing gauge thats no longer needed...sigh

The thread size for the oil pressure sending unit going into the banjo block is M18x1.5

Heed Tony's warning. The sender is often a very snug fit in the banjo block and you can apply enough force to break the port in the engine case

Broke of piece of metal, how to fix?

Another Oil Pressure Sender Replacement Thread with pics

Instead of removing the pressure sender, you could remove the temperature sender and install an adapter fitting there. At that location i've used a M14x1.5 adapter with a 1/8 NPT inner thread and then used a simple mechanical gauge with some AN-4 hose fittings.

The paragon mechanical is a nice unit but it is not compatible with the heat duct comming from the fan to the heat exchangets.

Once I put my headers on I will reinstall

Harpo

Can you explain how there would be interference on that portion of the engine. Are you stating the 4 inch ducting may interfere with the gauge?

Paragon Unit Install

Harpo...

there appears to be enough room to mount the paragon Oil Pressure/Gauge combination...

What is your experience to state otherwise?

To make room for the gauges the sender is tilted toward the engine and now interferes with an duct. I will post a photo tonight

Definitely get that gauge from Paragon if you really want it. Pelican has the same gauge setup in their catalog but it's $140 vs. $99 from Paragon! They probably source it from Paragon anyway?

Hmm...I dont see any possibility of interference there since my hose drapes along the top of the Fan shroud. Thanks for the pics
