WEBER CARB BALANCING

Is there any trick in balancing the 40IDT carbs? I get equal flow at idle ok, but at part throttle there is some difference (about 2400 RPM). I believe this is responsible for the back firing in the exhaust and popping in the carbs at low speeds. There are only two shafts on each carb so it might require bending one of the shafts (not something I want to try). Any suggestions? Thanks

I've thought about the problem again and now believe the mixture is wrong because of worn throttle valve shafts. Is there an easy fix or is the refitting of the oversize (8.5mm) shafts necessary? Who can supply the shafts?

Arrow worn out webers

those carbs run on the idle circuit all the way to 3000 rpm

p.s. - backfiring & popping can a myriad of causes - one of which is crudded idle jets with resultant incorrect "tuning" of the throttle opening to compensate

just google "weber carbs backfiring & popping"

get a good Weber book - there are a couple

OR just send your webers to Mike Pierce & get done right

he's a good guy

And yet the admin still won't display the original post date in the Thread Starter column.
