Mystery plugs

Hello. there are 2 plugs i found in the engine bay that were unplugged.. any idea what these are? The first one goes into the harness where the WUR plug also terminates.
the second plug had a pice of electrical tape over it for some reason.
Any guesses?

#1 is the heater blower plug
#2 is the external voltage regulator plug. Someone converted the car to internal regulator, and when you do that you get an extra plug laying around.

#1 is the thermo vacuum switch connector for 78/79 SC’s and ROW all years. Not used on Lambda vehicles like your ‘81. (Just tape it off) It has red/white and brown wires to it.

#2 is as Mike said. Not sure why it is there at all on that harness on an ‘81 that should have already been an internal VR engine. Has there been an engine swap or harness swap?

(The heater connector has yellow/black and a brown wires with different shape connectors depending on the year. Either a black “T” or 2 flat clear type.)

That's right, isn't the blower just like that as well? Except probably plugged in?

interesting.. i will ignore #1
As for #2, if that's a plug for the voltage regulator, that means someone converted to an internally regulated version?
My lights flicker all the time, so i thought my voltage regulator was on its way out..

I thought there was an external regulator in 81. Whats the advantage to an internal regulator? does that mean i have to pull the alternator/fan to replace the regulator?

Wasn’t it ‘81 they changed to internal regulator. Likely a transition year and they used what was on the shelf for your engine harness.

That is why I always ask what is existing when making new engine harnesses.

Yes, internal means pull the alternator to replace the VR.

I don't see any evidence that the harness or the engine was replaced.
out of curiosity, why would they change from external regulator (easy to swap) to internal regulator?

Check your 14 pin connector for clean tight connections. This could be the cause of your flickering alternator light. The alternator/light is pin 11, with the pale blue wire.

Confused.........

There are three (3) different mysterious plugs posted above. Plug #1 could not be for the TTV. Why? Look at the color of the wires. It has brown-green wire.

The wires for the thermotime valve are brown and brown-red. BTW, ‘81 SC’s have the integrated VR on the alternator. So the three-wire plug is not utilized in these late SC models.

It looks to me the first two pics from the OP is the same plug - Solid Brown and Red with White stripe. The green tint looks to be shadowing and dirt where the two wires intersect in the first pic (and a little out of focus).

Tony,
TTV wire was red/white from factory. Same parallel circuit as WUR and AAR.

Brown/Red and/or Brown/Black depending on the year was to the air flow switch.

I can hope!!
it seems to be a rhythmic flicker with dimming flicker, not brighter flicker.
