Engine cross mount

Hello everybody,

My name is Thorsten and I’m from Germany. I need your assistance regarding the engine cross member mount.

I’m restorating and modifying my 911 since several years. In the last months, I was rebuilding the engine ( 3.2 SS ). Over the years, I collected several things like a RSR style cross member etc. Now I compared the RSR style one with the mount I had on the engine before... the mounts are slightly different. Any ideas why?

Thank you in advance!

Thorsten

The old mount appears to be the very early mount without the turned reinforcement on the top for rigidity, being just flat metal stamping.
The custom mount is very rigid for strength. What I’ve done with them, on installation, is put a couple mm washer between the console and the cross bar to make it easier to line engine and trans bolts on installation.
I ve used head washers for spacers.

Thorsten,

If you want to use a really nice mount , take a look at the Rennline stainless unit, i installed one when i did a 3.6 transplant on my 89 , it's a beautiful and solid piece of work.
Probably not cost effective for you , but they have their annual 15% discount sale in December, it might be something to think about , considering the nice work you did with your engine !

OP,

Do no worry about it, the crossmember is meant to flex in and out but not up or down. Your old one has bent over time and the reason why Porsche put the turned reinforcement.

When mount it, make sure it aligns with intake manifold faces on the heads to insure your engine sits straight in the car.

Break a Leg Brother!

BTW, that oil line on left side should be turn down a bit to take the stress out of the rubber line or it may leak.
