Craftsman multi-meter
I have used a Craftsman for over 30 years, model no. 82328. It has never given me any problems. I believe I paid in the $20. range.
it measures AC and DC voltage and amperage, resistance, continuity, diode test, transistor hfe test, frequency measurement, capacitance measurement, temperature, and signal injection output. Since it's so old the Craftsman brand has been sold to Stanley/Black & Decker, who knows if this model is still available. But, I thought I'd mention it because of it's reliability and low cost. ![]()

When it comes to multi-meter, Fluke rules !!! That is what I use, recommend, and trust. Your mileage varies.

I have a Fluke that I have been using for 25+ years and it is really solid.
But I also have a collection of other meters that read dwell, RPM, dwell, and so much other stuff. I have one that was like $50 and has a scope built in. Yes Fluke is solid, but the technology and features in meters has gone through the roof, and the prices have dropped through the floor. I might be a meter junkie, but I find shopping eBay for the latest from China is fun!!!

people will be upset. but if you can live without an auto ranging meter (I cannot) go get a harbor freight and **** everyone. Klien makes a nice auto ranging meter sold by home depot that is as good as any mortal needs for $50 pss I too have used craftsman meters for forty years..

I use to do auto electric work for living and know I am an electronics tech for the FAA, (20+yrs).
you don't need a $300 meter to work on cars. about the only time I would use a $300 meter is if I need the record feature to measure how low the voltage goes when cranking, otherwise I use a TEST LIGHT or I will grab a cheap $30 meter I bought for my son and he never used. a MM can send you down the wrong road when working on cars. I have seen many times here. a guy has 12v at his light socket, all grounds are good but the light wont light. that's because a MM does not need but a tiny amount of current to measure 12v, not enough to light the bulb. .

Sorry, this belonged in kupcar's post labeled Multimeter Recommendation. I had trouble reducing the 5+ meg. size of the picture and somehow generated a new post.
