George's headers for 3.2

For a stock 3.2 with sport muffler and Steve Wong chip, are 1 3/4 OD & 1 5/8 ID Georges headers too big?

1 3/4 OD & 1 5/8 ID = OD too big, even w/ a chip yiot rare still rev limited to 6500 w/o internal mods.

1 1/2" OD(1/3/8" ID) = about right

biggest knock on these is the mild steel construction, which will rot, and lack of heat

Is that a straight through rally type muffler or does the exhaust snake through baffles on inside? Location of the placements of the exit pipes were the 3.0 rs rallye/rsr?

I am not sure, I'll ask my customer.

Is there a performance advantage to have headers vs a cat by bass and free flow muffler on an otherwise stock 3.2?

Headers work wonders when they have valve overlap to work w/. Put mufflers on the headers and the benefits are muted.

stock 3.2 has cams with very little overlap(8.0°), compared to say S cams w/ 72.0° of overlap

On a stock 3.2 a cat bypass + freeflow muffler will be a very cost effective option, which will deliver performance comparable to muffled headers, because all you are looking for is efficient flow volume, not tuning effects

I can add to what Bill says.

Most of my cars are as light as possible. My 73 had a 3.2 with George's headers (not sure on size but almost certainly 1 5/8 based on what Bill says and how the car performed) and gutted muffler and Steve Wong chip. The car was a complete package with mild sport suspension mods and weighed in at 2174 lb. Most fun car I've ever owned and the motor was a big part of it. Cheapest "3.6" ever. It's sitting on a dolly right now for rust repair, that motor is gone, want to duplicate it.

What I like about headers is you are saving at least 40 lb if not more. I know they are below center of gravity lb but weight is weight.

I used the European Racing aka george's aka GT racing headers in 1 3/4 on my 3.2
for several years.

I was very pleased with them.

Did not do back to back dyno testing with 1 5/8 of course.

I agree 1-5/8" is ideal for a stockish 3.2 ..
