Very cool! I didn't see this in the video, but out of curiosity what size air compressor and how much CFM are you pushing out for that gun?

Hey, mate its just a 2hp with roughly 200lph I did have to adjust the switch to kick in a little earlier due to the slight orange peel I got on the first weekend when air was low just before it would kick in, I feel its the bare minimum for that gun. I'm just a rookie but a can say that a good gun is definitely half the battle for a half decent job.

Good stuff! Congrats for doing it on your own as it's impossible to get a body shop to do anything other than insurance work these days, and a 'restoration' shop wants $20k and a 2 year wait.

Any close up pics? I like PPG single stage Omni for anyone interested in doing this as well. Cheap, available, easy.

Trying to convert that to CFM but 200 lph seems low (3.3ish CFM?) - most of the Devilbiss guns I see require something like 14 CFM @ 40 PSI. Not arguing here, just going through the struggle on whether to get a better HPLV gun (like the devilbiss) while my 20 gallon compressor only puts out something like 7 CFM @ 40 PSI.

Was going to try to repaint a few pieces for my truck and then try to tackle the front valance on my 911.

My thought was to upgrade the compressor next year to a 60 Gal 15 CFM model, and wait on the gun, but if I can get away with less CFM and still get a decent finish I may just get the Devilbiss and stick with my current compressor until I kill it.

Sweet! that's how i shot the epoxy primer on my SC. i wanted to shoot paint, but i haven't decided if the body is getting more work (wider) or not and i don't want to do it twice.

Great job!

Yeah the cost for me just wasn't there especially since the car will see track time and a lot of stone chips. For me close enough was good enough.

Nothing super close up but these 2 are a good true representation of the finish notice the front bar was a bit on dryer due to temps rising in the shed nothing a wet sand and polish cant fix.

You could look at getting a cheap one to help feed your main one. Im all for good gun over good compressor

Great work.

I'm certainly not up to your skill level. A few days ago I painted the roof on GF's Corolla, but I'm not up to doing anything on the 911 yet.

I'm not having much luck with clear coat it kind of drys too fast or something.

I practice painted some black urathane paint and it looked amazing, so I'm getting there.

Kyngfish, I'm using a Devilbiss GTI Pro lite with a 1.3 TE10 air cap. Much the same as a Tekna in the US. It works well with my 3HP compressor. Something like 9 cfm air requirement, or less.

Do you have a link of someone that actually sells it? The ones I see on Amazon and Ebay have reviews saying they are knockoffs.

I was looking at this one:

I bought mine from a reputable local place to avoid the knock off thing.

Also with a local place you can call in and ask questions at a later date. There are lots of Devilbiss guns around so you need one that is happy with 9.9cfm airflow or less.
