Fan housing is just the part number

Matt Monson 10-08-2018 06:26 AM

Red fan housing is traditionally an S.

da Vinci Dan 10-08-2018 06:42 AM

Looks like a 2.2 to me. I guess you would need to run the numbers. The fan housing number above does not help. You need to find the number on one of the halves.

could be 1968 911 if i remember?? It has the left camshaft longer for the fuel pump gear outside the left chain housing cover......

Need the Engine Type numbers (stamped on the right side of case next to the camshaft oil line) and the Engine Serial numbers (stamped on the left side of the fan support on the case).

Thats what tells you what you have. :)

Indeed, and they are unique to this model: 40IDS 3C

It would still be of interest to learn the motor number and type. That will tell you much more about what you have.

I remember one of these threads a few years back. The engine in question was a 4 cam and Grady Clay was instrumental in getting this engine to market at market value.
I was a little disappointed that this wasn't another 4 cam!:)

Do Y'all think this could be an S engine? I am still awaiting numbers.

This layman says a solid maybe.

While you wait for numbers, here is a thread where the carbs Steve mentions are for sale. May be of no value but you can compare against what you your pic shows. Hope this works out for you.

One of the greatest threads ever. An Ernst Fuhrmann 4 cam.

The poor OP was getting pounded on for being a troll given the rarity of the engine. "Like, how can you have that engine and not know"

Grady let loose on the entire community here about what pr*ks we were being. Things settled down and the thread became a joy. I remember Grady taking it from him in exchange for a nice car but I could be wrong.

Bob, thanks for the link to the 4-cam thread-tonight I'll read it again with a beverage and it will be even better!

Sorry dwells, not trying to hijack-good luck with your quest!

proporsche 10-09-2018 01:37 PM

after reading about Mr.Clay...there was a man with giant knowledge about the history of Porsche....
Not too many like him are left..heads down to his contribution here on Pelicans.....
