snorkel type K&N on 82 SC

Has anyone ever installed a snorkel type K&N on a later model SC?

I see that some places sell them, I don't think that Pelican does.

I am not really after the performance gain I am after the clearence so that I could place some fans on my AC condensor.

I know that fabspeed sells a super low clearance air filter cover however there is no protection from water.

Thanks for your replies,

I thought the CIS airbox was integral to proper operation of the CIS? I'm a carb guy so I may be wrong. There's been some recent, and somewhat scary threads recently on K&N, do a search and you may re-consider.

I know that is what I thought too, that the CIS airbox was important but then I see some people selling Air Box set-ups like Vertex for example.

What do you mean scary threads about K&N......like they are not stopping air contaminents that can damage the engine?

Interesting read RE: K&N Filters...
K&N Filters?

This is a big time point of contention, up there with oil choice. Some say it lets more crap into the engine, others say they give you a HP improvement. I've never seen any proof of power increases, so why take a chance? Also, remember that just because someone sells a product, it doesn't mean it's ok to use. I've heard of "high flow" intakes screwing with the airflow meters on newer cars and causing them to run rough, just as an example.

New Air Box Covers

How about this? Made by a Pelican, and Wayne's supposed to be selling them when they're ready for production. Not sure what kind of filter they use, but it has to be better than a cone.
