Numbers Matching
I have a 1970 911T with a matching numbers engine and transmission ,the original colour of the car is Burgandy (2424) ,I’m planning on changing the colour to signal orange ,I’ve been told by doing this it will make the car non matching numbers ,is this correct
Thanks B |

No. It won't change the serial numbers. It will impact the value because it's no longer original color. If it's aubergine it's a rare color that could add as much as 10-15% to the value of the car. But it's your car. Paint it how you like.

Well, yes the paint & interior codes are numbers that can match just as the engine & transmission numbers. Matching numbers basically means: as delivered. Deviations from this can be expensive to remediate, hence the reduced value if it is not as delivered. My humble opinion.

I'm not sure why you would want to change the color, but it is your car.
Post a picture, burgandy is a great color IMO.

Matching numbers only matter on some classic cars. For instance a 356 can have been painted 3 different colors, had 3 engines and the last one out of a super 90, and two transmissions. If the car is really nice it will still be worth $100,000. Or more!

Screw matching numbers & color: it is your car, drive it and make it yours. You cut your hair as you like it, dress as you will, pray if you choose & vote your vision of the future. Be free to make your ride your own.
If it is an investment then park it, insure it and be sure it has matching numbers and OEM color. |

It's your car, do what you want. I personally would never buy a car that is not the original color.
