Air Cooled Engine Rebuilders in Atlanta, GA
I might have to drop my engine (2.4 with CIS) and get it rebuilt (new rings and valve job) so I am getting a list of Porsche shops that provide the service. Any recommendations?
BTW, did someone buy Franz Blam's shop in Tucker? He moved to a small space somewhere in Marietta where he still builds racing engines. Thanks Bob |

Franz retired a few weeks ago. His daughter said she would call me when he gets set up in his 'post-retirement' shop, but I haven't heard anything yet.
I just left my 3.2 with Marteen at Auto Europe on Piedmont Circle for a full build today. https://ibb.co/jeZbiA

Thanks for the responses.
I talked with Franz this afternoon. He can be reached at the same number for Franz Blam Racing at his Tucker number. He rents out a space in Marietta from a machinist who machines aircraft parts and is still rebuilding engines, preferably racing engines. Good for Franz. I did call Checkpoint Auto (Beal) who by the way will be opening up a shop in Dahlonega next year. I also contacted Graham Everett as well. Several other shops refused to give even the roughest estimate for a valve job or ring replacement let alone how much to R&R the engine without insisting that they "tear open the engine and rebuild everything"!! No names given here, but its apparent that the small staffed shops were much more helpful in discussing some of my cars symptoms and remedies then the larger shops who wanted no more then to try and make me part with 25K+ from my wallet! Really? The guys who were helpful gave estimates and at least let me know what I was up against, cost wise. If you know of anyone else out there rebuilding engines please let me know as I would like to contact them. My engine was rebuilt by Galen Bridges, who I understand worked out of his garage. His reputation in this skill is well known..... Bob |

Bob,
I have recently been though this, and am very familiar with all shops listed. At this point, there are only two people in Atlanta that I would recommend. This is a public forum. As such, there are limitations to how much information I will share here. There are definite names in this thread I would avoid at all costs. Marteen at Auto Europe is very good. Please send a private message if you would like to discuss further.

One not mentioned so far is Jack Lewis. I’ve never had him do much for me but know him by racing against him, damn fast on the track.

I used Goldcrest Motorsports for a top end rebuild on my 3.2. Highly recommended by me.
Extremely pleased with the work. No return backs or issues once done. They were easy to work with, didn't try to upsell me on automatically replacing everything with new... kept it reasonable within a budget and let me follow the work in progress and were always willing to discuss "options" while it was all apart.
