Wiper issue, Always on ARRRR 74 Targa lives again!
Hi-
Got tried of seeing the old girl sit after the X to a pulaski to all glass and panels 5 years ago. Self taught body shop and some engine sorting and the 74's on the road again. I have the rear glass but waiting to install until after paint. However the primmer look is growing on me. No concern for parking scratches ect. HA. Any thoughts on what would cause the wipers to be on at all times. This issue started a couple months with intermittent problems but I could get them to turn off. Now there always on regardless of the switch position. I resorted to pulling the fuse and driving in the sun. Difficult on Kauai. ![]() Yesterday a pulled the Momo to switch out my tach and speedo and attempted to address the wiper problem while the access was good. I did manage to fix the tac and now can determine fuel consumption based on a functioning odometer I borrowed from the 70 T. Dam near ever system has issues but Im having fun addressing them. I noticed in the steering column there was a brown ground wire that was unattached, (see image below) It looked like there was a mark where it used to be grounded under the clam shell screw, where it attaches to the column. I grounded that wire with no change. Tried reconnecting the wires to the motor through the speedo hole, no luck. Not sure I want to replace the switch without determining that the problem. I thought I remember a potential solution was to access the motor from the boot and check the connection/switch that tells the motor to start/stop. Any thoughts or passed experiences would be appreciated. ![]() ![]()

There are 2 wiper switches. The one that gets new owners is on the dash on the right side of the steering wheel - it's for the intermittent wipers.
You can get access to the wiper motor by removing the speedo or tach. If you need to troubleshoot: The wiper switch consists of terminals # 53a, 53, 53b, 53i, 53e, and 53c. During wiper park cycle, 53e (blue wire) is connected to 53a (red/white wire, +12 v all the time). The connection is made when the wiper switch is off and the motor is not in the park position. The motor makes connection between 53e and 53a with an internal disk. The wiper switch connection between 53e and 53 puts the wipers into the slow mode, until the disk inside the motor turns to the park or off position. 53a Red/White = +12 v all the time 53a Black to capacitor and to red/white in parallel = +12 v all the time 53 Red/Black = slow speed wipers 53b black/yellow = medium speed wipers 53i green = fast speed wipers 53e blue = park at slow speed 53c black = washer pump motor

Wondering if the internal disc is corroded shut, thus making the motor unable to shut off.
